Is sex with an ex not considered cheating?

This is part 5 of the TLG Cheating Myths series. Previous parts: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.

Check out the previous part in the series where I answered the myth: Does cheating mean that you don’t love your partner? Read about it here. In this part, which is part 5, I will talk about a long-lived myth that sex with an ex isn’t really cheating. A lot of people seem to think that this is not cheating even though all the signs point to that. What is it about this myth that is so special? Some people reading this wants to use this article as an excuse to go ahead and do it, like a justification. Others will want me to arrive at the other conclusion that is cheating plain and simple and there’s no excuses.

So why is this not plain and simple cheating according to those who does it? Well, they have been there before so it can’t be cheating. Sex with the ex does happen more frequently than most like to admit, and there’s of course a reason for that. You were in love with that person at one point for whatever reason and humans are generally weak when it comes to dealing with past emotions. No matter if it is cheating or not, having sex with the ex will of course have major consequences for your current relationship and future ones as well. Just the thought that you might think that you’ll enjoy that puts you in a bad position with any relationship you want to have in the future.

Whether you believe the myth or not, you should consider the following:

Is it really worth it?

  • Remember that if you take that step, there’s no going back. Also, sex with an ex has a higher possibility of being discovered so you are not getting away with it despite what you think.

There might not be enough data supporting the myth, but sex with an ex is considered cheating by everyone I know so I will go with that.

To answer the myth. Is sex with an ex not considered cheating? No, it’s considered cheating.

In the next part I will talk about getting caught and if there really is a foolproof way of not getting discovered (like lots of people think). See you then!
